Anyone with interest in recent developments concerning theological dialogue between Christianity and Islam is warmly invited to register for this symposium, whether in person or via Zoom. The symposium will address questions and challenges raised for Christian theology and practice by dialogue with Muslims, and examine issues about how Christian-Muslim dialogue is understood and practiced. Although primarily an intra-Christian conversation, the symposium will also include reflections by Muslim scholars about their experience of Christian-Muslim dialogue.

We hope you will be able to join us, whether in person or by Zoom link, indicating clearly the mode of your participation. For registration, and Zoom participation link, please contact by 20 Oktober 2023:

International Conference series: "Interreligious Relations and Ecumenical Issues"(IREI)
Internationale Konferenzen: „Interreligiöse Beziehungen und ökumenische Fragen“

In November 2011, a group of some 15 local and overseas scholars in the field of ecumenical and interreligious dialogue met at the University of Bern for the first Interreligious Relations and Ecumenical Issues (IREI) conference. The conference series is an initiative of the Institute of (formerly: Department for) Old Catholic Theology (Institut für Christkatholische Theologie) in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Bern.
The aim of the conference series is to address contemporary questions of interreligious relations in light of the ecumenical tradition of the Old Catholic movement, extending beyond the classic conjunction of Old Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox communions. Whilst these three voices are present at each conference, other Christian perspectives are also prominent and perspectives from other religious traditions contribute as well.
Papers are presented from a variety of speakers representing international and ecumenical contexts and a broad denominational diversity. As a consequence of the significance and success of these conferences, select papers from them have been published as the “Bern Interreligious and Oecumenical Studies” (IKZ-bios) series with the first two volumes published as a sub-series of the Internationale Kirchliche Zeitschrift (IKZ) and the third, fourth and fifth volumes as themed issues of the journal Studies in Interreligious Dialogue (Louvain: Peeters).

IREI Conferences so far:

- Interreligious Relations and Theological Reflection: Ecumenical Overview and Issues (2011)
- From Encounter to Commitment: Interreligious Experience (2012)
- Theological Reflection and Religious Minorities and Theological Challenges (2014)
- Belief Diversity and the Lived Experience of Religion: Narratives and Interpretations (2016)
- Secular Society and Religious Presence: Religion-State Relations in Historical and Contemporary Perspectives (2018)
